COLUMBIA, S.C. – Benedict College senior Starkeira Daniel has been named to the 2019 D2CCA Softball All-South Region Team. Daniel was named to the second team.
The South All-Region team is voted on by the Sports Information Directors from the South Region, made up of institutions from the Gulf South Conference (GSC), Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), and Sunshine State Conference (SSC). Daniel was the only representative from the SIAC to make the All-Region squad.
Daniel was recently named the SIAC Player of the Year after leading the Lady Tigers to a second-place regular season finish in conference. She led the conference with a .466batting average, which ranks 13th nationally in Division II. She also led the SIAC in RBIs per game with 1.51, which ranks second nationally. Her slugging percentage of .905 led the SIAC and ranks fourth nationally. The Ellenwood, Ga. native appeared in all 39 games for Benedict as she finished the season leading her team in runs (47), hits (54), doubles (14), triples (5), home runs (9), and RBIs (59) this season. She led the SIAC in on-base percentage (.522), which ranked 31st nationally.
