ATLANTA, Ga. (January 31, 2022) – Through a grant from USA Volleyball and the First Point Volleyball Foundation, the SIAC announced its intent to add men's volleyball as a conference sport back in 2019.
This year, six SIAC member institutions – Benedict College, Central State University, Edward Waters University, Fort Valley State University, Kentucky State University, and Morehouse College -- will compete for the inaugural SIAC crown in April as men’s volleyball becomes the league’s 15th championship sport.
In the first match of the SIAC's inaugural men's volleyball season, the
Central State Marauders lost to Indiana Tech in a highly competitive five set match (18-25; 25-23; 25-21; 17-25; 10-15). "We battled really hard. For the first match with all first-year players, I thought we did an excellent job of competing for every point against a team in Indiana Tech who is coming off a NAIA national tournament appearance," CSU head coach Ray Lewis said. "We had some impressive contributions from quite a few players today. Jaden Rookhuyzen, who was playing a position he had just been moved to a few days ago, really shined today."
As the season continues, men's volleyball teams will be featured at the Southwest Boys Classic and the Lone Star Classic 18s on Feb. 4-5, 2022. This non-conference tournament will be the first time that a NCAA Division I-II regular season match will be played in Texas. Teams will be competing in a round robin tournament held over two days.
