Benedict Runs Away With 2022 SIAC Women's Track & Field Championship

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Benedict College women's outdoor track and field team blew away the field with a whopping 131-point victory over second-place Albany State to win their fourth straight SIAC Championship on Saturday at Winthrop University's Irwin Belk Track.
 
Benedict scored 230 total points, with Albany State finishing a distant second with 99 points. Benedict entered Saturday's final day with a 34-point lead over Spring Hill. Benedict scored 152 points on the final day, dominating most of the running events.
 
Benedict's Jane Kiborus was named the women's Cleve Abbott Award winner for scoring the most points in the championship. Kiborus won the women's 10,000-meter run, the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and finished second in the 5,000-meter run and 1,500-meter run to score 36 total points. She was also named the Most Outstanding Track Performer.
 
Benedict's Kyra Buffen was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer with 24 total points. She won the high jump with a jump of 1.65 meters (5 feet, 5 inches) and finished second in the long jump and third in the triple jump.

Coach Frank Hyland was named the women's Coach of the Year.
 
The Lady Tigers dominated Saturday's running finals.
 
The Lady Tigers took a clean sweep of the medals in the 100-meter hurdles race. Santiona Freeman won with a time of 14.59, followed by Kaciann Cowan (14.86) and Cailyn Johnson (15.34).
 
They also swept the 400-meter dash race, with Eilika Lane winning in a time of 55.25, followed by Kassie Jordan (56.59) and Kanesha Moses (57.53). Lane then won the 400-meter hurdles race with a time of 1:00.82, with Charity Williams finishing third in a time of 1:03.78.
 
Savionna Glover won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.09. Naila Harris won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.84.
 
Benedict also won both relay races. The 4x100-meter relay team of Glover, Charity Williams, Shantel Williams and Freeman won with a time of 46.80. The 4x400-meter relay team of Angel Johnson, Lane, Jada David and Jordan won with a time of 3:54.80, beating second-place Albany State by more than two seconds.
 
Spring Hill was third with 84 points, followed by Savannah State (76), Fort Valley State (69.5), Clark Atlanta (67), Central State (56.5), Tuskegee (41), Kentucky State (30), Lane (26) and Miles (15).
