COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers are off to their best start since resuming their football program in 1995 with a 24-6 victory over the Savannah State Tigers on Thursday night in Charlie W. Johnson Stadium in front of a national ESPNU television audience. Benedict improves to 3-0 on the season, and 1-0 in the SIAC. Savannah State falls to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the SIAC. Records and scores prior to 1966, when Benedict ended its football program for 28 years, are incomplete, but there is no historical record of a Benedict football team ever starting the season 3-0.

FORT VALLEY, GA – After being challenged all afternoon, the Wildcats proved resilient down the stretch. Kelvin Durham's quarterback scramble for a 10-yard touchdown gave Fort Valley State its first lead in over 36 minutes and its defense held strong late to complete the 29-27 comeback football victory over Allen University. Following the FVSU score four plays into the second half, Allen answered with a nine-play drive of its own to extend its lead, 27-17. The Wildcats showed the final 17 minutes would be theirs.

West Alabama 10, Tuskegee 13

LIVINGSTON, AL – In a hard-fought defensive battle, Tuskegee (1-2) pulled off the upset win on the road against West Alabama 13-10 in non-conference play for their first victory of the season and 700th official win in program history. The two teams traded scores in the first half, before a field goal from Arnes Huskic (Jacksonville, Fla.) with 5:38 to play proved to be the difference, as the Golden Tiger defense ended the game with an interception from Zelly Aldridge (Gallion, Ala.), after allowing just 10 points in front of the home crowd at Tiger Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Kentucky State 3, Dayton 46

DAYTON, OH – Kentucky State held division I opponent the Dayton Flyers to just 10 points in the first half. The Flyers returned from the half, scoring 36 points, and defeating the Thorobreds 46-3 at Welcome Stadium.

JACKSON, TN – The Lane College football team opened conference play on Saturday when they hosted cross-divisional opponent Clark Atlanta at Liberty Tech Field. After struggling to move the ball in dreary conditions last week, the Dragons benefited from a beautiful day and a well-manicured field to torch the Panthers defense for 474 yards on just 57 offensive plays (8.3 yards per play)

FAIRFIELD, AL – Miles Golden Bears fell to No. 14/15 Valdosta State University on Saturday at home, 55-7. The Blazers got back on the winning track improving to 2-1 on the year, while Miles fell to 0-3.

ROME, GA – For the second time this season, the Golden Rams defeated a team from the Gulf South Conference.  Using a balanced attack, the Golden Rams defeated the Shorter Hawks (42-20).  Dionte Bonneau passed for 246 yards and 2 touchdowns while the Golden Rams rushed 42 times for 279 yards. Marcuis Fulks led the Golden Rams in rushing with 16 carries for 119 yards. The Golden Rams took an early lead when Dionte Bonneau scored on a 43-yard run.  The touchdown capped a 6-play drive that covered 92 yards.

Central State 23, Bluefield State 27

BLUEFIELD, W.V. – The Central State Marauders were edged on the road by the Bluefield State Blues on Saturday, 27-23. The loss drops the Marauders to 1-2 overall while BSU improved to 2-1 on the year. The Marauder moved the ball effectively down the field but failed to score any points in its final four trips to the red zone in the second half. CSU also fumbled the ball away twice with one giveaway resulting in a score.
