MONTGOMERY, Ala. - For three quarters, Miles shut down and shut out Alabama State in the Golden Bears' season opener. The defense forced five turnovers and the special teams added another. For the second straight year, Division I Alabama State could not put away its smaller Division II opponent. But thanks to a strong first quarter, Alabama State was able to walk away with a win in the Labor Day Classic, holding off Miles 21-13 in front of 10,306 spectators at ASU Stadium. Down three touchdowns before the end of the first quarter, the Golden Bears (0-1) had the ball late with a chance to tie. Unfortunately, the last-ditch drive did not get past midfield as the Hornets moved to 2-0 on the season.

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Lane College football team kicked off their 2022 season with a trip to Arkansas on Saturday to take on NCAA Division I member UAPB. The Dragons wasted no time showing off their offense as Senior quarterback Michael Huntley found receiver Jacquez Jones on the third play from scrimmage for a 70-yard touchdown.

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Second-half adjustments were not enough as the Delta State Statesman defeated the Kentucky State Thorobreds 33-10 in the 2022 season opener. In the opening drive, Jaylen Johnson intercepted Cole Kirk to earn the first interception of the season. Delta state scored early on a 61-yard pass to Todd Battle, and a short run by Kory Gainwell almost extended the Statesmen lead to 14-0, but a block by Elijah Grant kept Delta state to a 13-0 lead with 9:54 left in the first quarter.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Clark Atlanta scored the go-ahead touchdown to steal a 39-34 decision on Saturday afternoon at Glover Community Field & Stadium. Penalties and a slow offensive start once again proved to be the Tigers (0-2, 0-1 SIAC) undoing in the home opener as EWU racked up 11 penalties for 105 yards, their second straight game with 10+ penalties for 100+ yards. Clark Atlanta's rushing attack proved to be problematic for the Edward Waters defense as several times in the contest, the Panthers gashed the Tigers on huge runs.

ATLANTA, Ga. – In their first home game after two years, the Morehouse Maroon Tigers came up just short against West Alabama in a 24-16 lost at B.T. Harvey Stadium on Saturday evening. The Maroon Tigers got off to a strong start during Saturday's game. Senior Darien Pittman intercepted West Alabama quarterback Tucker Melton on the fourth play of the game; Morehouse capitalized by scoring a field goal and taking a 3-0 lead.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State University saw its football fortunes change in a little more than a minute Saturday night against Southeastern University at Theodore A. Wright Stadium. The Tigers were burned by a three-touchdown ambush in the final 70 seconds of the first half and dropped their season-opener to the Fire 34-14 in the debut of head coach Aaron Kelton.

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Allen University Football dropped their season opener on the road 40-6 Saturday Night at a tough Newberry College foe, the defending SAC Champs. The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore receiver/kick returner Jamal Jones who ran a 100-yard kick back for a touchdown in the third quarter to put the Jackets on the board. He also rushed for 13 yards and caught 5 passes for 40 yards on the night while totaling 130 return yards

Albany, Ga. – The Albany State Golden Rams used a strong 2nd half defensively to defeat the Mississippi Choctaws (28-14) on opening day at the Albany State Coliseum. The Choctaws received the opening kickoff and marched down the field using the triple-option attack to score on the Golden Rams. After a 55-yard run by Marcus Williams, quarterback DeAnte Smith-Moore scored a touchdown from the 1-yard line to give the Choctaws a (7-0) lead.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Benedict College head football coach Chennis Berrry preaches about the importance of all three phases of a football game – offense, defense, and special teams. In Saturday's season opener against Elizabeth City State, the Tigers dominated in all three phases to take a 58-14 victory over Elizabeth City State in the Carolinas Classic.
Benedict racked up 550 yards of total offense; held Elizabeth City State to 243 yards of offense, 0-for-10 on third and fourth downs; and had several big plays on special teams, including a blocked punt which helped lead to a Benedict touchdown.

Canton, OH – The Central State Marauders defeated the Winston-Salem State Rams, 41-21, in the 2022 Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, on Sunday. Sunday's game, which was shown live on the NFL Network, opened with an 81-yard kickoff return by CSU's Twon Hines. Hines later finished the drive with a seven-yard touchdown reception to give the Marauders the early lead. Anthony Mack put CSU up by 14 with a 25-yard interception return for a score at the 6:26 mark of the first quarter. At the conclusion of the game, Central State head football coach Kevin Porter was presented with the BCHOF Championship Trophy while linebacker Jalil Lenore earned BCHOF Player of the Game honors.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Backed up after a penalty on a punt return, the Wildcats turned to the man of the night on the first play and the rest was history. Emanuel Wilson took the hand-off and ran up the gut of the Tuskegee defense for an 87-yard touchdown and sealed the Fort Valley State victory with 11 minutes left in the game, 21-6, at the 2nd Annual Red Tails Classic.
