Volleyball Players of the Week for Week 6 on Tuesday, October 10. Spring Hill's
Mia Saavedra was named
Offensive Player of the Week, while Tuskegee's
Sian Sprinkle was named
Defensive Player of the Week. Also recognized were Central State's
Brooke Morris, named
Setter of the Week, and Benedict's
Deisire' Young, named
Newcomer of the Week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Mia Saavedra, Spring Hill College
Setter/Outside Hitter | Freshman | Tampa, Florida
Saavedra delivered another stellar performance during the SIAC West Tournament in Ohio this past weekend. Her remarkable contributions were pivotal in propelling the Badgers to a clean sweep over the weekend. Saavedra's standout performance included an impressive total of 43 kills. On Saturday, she led the team in this statistical category and dominated two matches with her exceptional skills. Her excellent play was undoubtedly instrumental in Spring Hill's successful weekend campaign.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sian Sprinkle, Tuskegee University
Middle Blocker | Freshman | Belleville, Illinois
Sian Sprinkle showcased her prowess on the volleyball court, notching an impressive double-figure kill count of ten and seven crucial blocks in a standout performance against non-conference opponent Oakwood University. Her dominant presence at the net undoubtedly played a pivotal role in leading the team's defensive efforts as they faced off against LeMoyne-Owen. Sprinkle's exceptional skills and determination make her an athlete worth keeping a close eye on as she continues to make her mark in college sports.
SETTER OF THE WEEK – Brooke Morris, Central State University

Brooke Morris delivered a remarkable performance during the SIAC West Division Cluster, emerging as the driving force behind her team's success with an impressive total of 117 assists. She showcased her exceptional skills and leadership on the court, distributing the ball with precision and finesse. Brooke's standout contributions included 41 assists against LeMoyne Owen, 32 assists against Lane, 13 against Miles, 15 against Spring Hill, and 16 against Tuskegee. Her outstanding playmaking abilities were instrumental in her team's victories, making her an invaluable asset throughout the tournament.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – Desire' Young, Benedict College
Middle Blocker | Freshman | Aurora, Colorado
Desire' Young showcased her impressive skills on the volleyball court last week, averaging 8.5 kills per match across four competitive games. In a thrilling showdown against Savannah State, Young's performance was nothing short of spectacular, recording a stunning 14 kills on 19 attacks with a flawless hitting percentage of .737. Additionally, she demonstrated her defensive prowess by tallying a season-high four digs. Not only did she excel in offensive and defensive aspects, but Young also proved to be a formidable presence at the net, averaging an impressive 2.25 total blocks per match throughout the week.
