SIAC Announces Contenders Ahead of 2023 SIAC Football Championship Presented by Cricket, Benedict Leads the Pack

ATLANTA, GA – As the gridiron battles intensify in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), the path to the 2023 SIAC Football Championship presented by Cricket becomes clearer, with Benedict College leading the pack.

With a flawless 7-0 record in conference standings, the Tigers of Benedict College have secured their place as the home team for the championship showdown! Benedict’s undefeated march through the SIAC has been a display of both skill and determination, setting the stage for what promises to be a riveting conclusion to the season.

As matchups continue, competition for a spot in the championship game remains fierce. The roster of potential adversaries includes Tuskegee (6-1), Fort Valley State (6-1), Miles (5-2), and Albany State (5-2). Depending on the outcomes, the conference could witness a four-way tiebreaker. In this critical juncture, the highest winning conference percentage among common opponents will determine who advances to face Benedict during the championship game!

SCENARIO 1: TUSKEGEE WINS
The Tuskegee Golden Tigers are poised to face off against the formidable Golden Bears of Miles at Albert J. Sloan-Alumni Stadium. A victory for Tuskegee during this contest will set the stage for an epic clash against Benedict College during the championship game.

SCENARIO 2: FORT VALLEY STATE WINS | TUSKEGEE LOSES
The Fort Valley State Wildcats are gearing up for a historic matchup as they face the Albany State Golden Rams during the Fountain City Classic. A win for the Wildcats, coupled with a Tuskegee loss, will secure the Wildcat’s placement in the championship game.

SCENARIO 3: ALBANY STATE WINS | TUSKEGEE LOSES
The Albany State Golden Rams have surged to a 5-2 standing in the SIAC. Their next challenge is to overcome their rivals, Fort Valley State, at the Fountain City Classic. Should they emerge victorious and Tuskegee succumb to Miles, Albany State will have solidified their place in the championship game.

NCAA QUALIFICATIONS
It is important to note that while Allen and Edward Waters have made commendable strides this season, the programs are not eligible to participate in the football championship. Teams competing in the SIAC football championship must be active NCAA member institutions. Allen and Edward Waters are currently provisional member institutions.

The stakes have never been higher as the SIAC reaches the peak of its 2023 football season! The question of who will rise to challenge Benedict can only be answered on the field, ensuring that the road to the championship is nothing short of exhilarating!
