Kentucky State 10, Tuskegee 36

FRANKFORT, KY - Despite allowing a field goal early in the first quarter, the Golden Tiger defense stood strong for the remainder to set the tone while the offense got hot, including touchdowns on three consecutive drives in the second to help earn the 36-10 win on Saturday over Kentucky State inside of Alumni Stadium. Head Coach Aaron James and his program improved to 2-0 as TU won its second straight over Kentucky State, both on the road. The Thorobreds dropped 1-1 in its first year under Felton Huggins Jr.

University of Dayton 62, Central State 24

In their first matchup since 2016, Central State faced the University of Dayton at Welcome Stadium. During this intense battle, the University of Dayton scored the first 27 points and the last 26 points of the game. With a powerful strategy in the third quarter, this was not enough to break the Flyers as they gained 99 yards in the fourth quarter, a 36-24 loss for the Marauders.

In a non-conference game at Greene Stadium, Morehouse faced a formidable opponent in Howard University, who scored early and frequently, accumulating over 600 yards of total offense on their way to a 65-19 win, the largest margin of victory between the programs.

ATLANTA, GA - The long wait for the kick-off Saturday was worth it for Wildcat fans! Tied at halftime, Fort Valley State's Kentrelle Williams rushed untouched up the middle on the first second-half possession and started a 30-point outburst to dominate host Clark Atlanta, 40-17.

Bethune-Cookman 31, Savannah State 6

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Despite a pair of Savannah State University players having a career day, the Tigers lost their first game of the 2023 season to Bethune-Cookman University 31-6 in a contest play on September 9 at Daytona Stadium. The crowd of 6,938 saw a close defensive battle up until midway in the third quarter when the Wildcats ended the game with 24 unanswered points.

Edward Waters 0, Benedict 34

JACKSONVILLE, FL - The 16th-ranked Benedict College Tigers picked up their second shutout of the season with a 34-0 victory over Edward Waters in their SIAC opener on Saturday, holding them to just 69 yards of offense. The Tigers improve to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the SIAC. Edward Waters falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC.

Alabama State 17, Miles 21

FAIRFIELD, AL - The Miles Golden Bears traveled south to the capital city of Montgomery to face off against FCS opponent Alabama State University and, for the first time in school history, defeated the Hornets, 21-17.  Miles, who trailed most of the game, would score the game-winning touchdown with 5:38 remaining in the 4th quarter to take a 21-17 lead that they would hold on to for the victory. Despite being outgained in total yards, 327 to 307, the Golden Bears controlled the clock by accumulating 143 yards on the ground and controlling the ball for 34:11.

Albany State 16, Valdosta State 21

ALBANY, GA - After a furious 4th quarter rally, the Albany State University Golden Rams came up short against the Valdosta State University Blazers on Saturday evening at the ASU Coliseum.  With the loss, the Golden Rams fell to (0-2) record while the Blazers improved to (2-0).

Alabama A&M 51, Lane 13

The 13th annual Louis Crews Classic showcased Lane's resilience as they faced Alabama A&M on Saturday. Central State put up a strong fight during the first half, and despite turnovers and miscues, the Dragons managed to keep the score close at 14-7 as they entered the locker room. After making some adjustments at halftime, the Bulldogs ignited a second-half surge, securing a 51-13 victory over Lane.

Allen 49, Columbus State 0

BLYTHEWOOD, SC - The Allen University football team rolled to their second straight win, this time a 49-0 rout of visiting Columbus State from Westwood Stadium on Saturday evening. The 49-point victory margin is the widest in school history and second-most points scored. The shutout is also the first in school history.
