COLUMBIA, S.C. — The
Albany State University Golden Rams continued their Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference success with an impressive 57-17 win over the
Allen University Yellow Jackets on Saturday evening at Westwood High School in Columbia, SC. With the victory, Albany State improves to 3-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while Allen falls to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the SIAC.
The Golden Rams set the tone early, with quarterback
Isaiah Knowles connecting with
Kieren Jackson for a 25-yard touchdown pass on the very first play from scrimmage, putting ASU up 7-0 just 22 seconds into the game. Knowles had an outstanding night, throwing five touchdown passes, three of which came in a dominant first quarter. He found
Jamill Williams for two long scores—41 and 78 yards—and hit
Devon Dorsey for a 9-yard touchdown, helping Albany State build a commanding 27-7 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Allen's only first-quarter response came on a 49-yard pass from Jamir Dismukes to Nanders Lawrence, cutting ASU's lead to 20-7. However, the Golden Rams' offense proved too powerful, responding with yet another big play before the quarter closed. Knowles connected with
Javion Jackson for a 12-yard touchdown early in the second quarter to make it 34-7. Allen managed to add ten more points with a 1-yard touchdown run from Fabian Duncan and a 40-yard field goal by Sam Herman, but the Golden Rams answered back with a 39-yard pass to Dorsey in the final seconds of the first half, going into halftime with a 41-17 advantage.
In the second half, Albany State continued to roll. Running back
Aljhanod Thomas added a 10-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, and the Golden Rams' defense contributed a safety in the fourth. Jordan Smith-McDaniel Jr. capped off the game with a 12-yard touchdown run, securing the 57-17 victory.
The Golden Rams' "Dirty Blue," led by Aaron Dawson Jr., played a crucial role, with nine total tackles.
Aydin Henningham,
Rontavion Scott,
Andrew Ruffin, and
De'avary Weeks added five tackles each, effectively stifling Allen's offense and keeping them scoreless in the second half.
UP NEXT
The Golden Rams will head to Alabama next Saturday to face Miles College on Oct. 12, as they look to maintain their unbeaten streak in conference play.
