Central State Lady Marauders move to 3-0 in SIAC with victory

WILBERFORCE, Ohio — Central State (4-2, 3-0 SIAC) earned a hard-fought 55-49 victory over Savannah State (3-4, 0-2 SIAC) on Sunday, Dec. 2, at Beacom/Lewis Gym. The contest, which was sponsored by Crumbl Cookies, saw a standout performance from Zhieyah Rolack, who was named the Crumbl Cookie Player of the Game after leading all scorers with 20 points.

The game was competitive throughout, with Central State taking control in the second and third quarters after a slow start. The first quarter saw the Lady Marauders struggle offensively, managing just 9 points while allowing Savannah State to take a 16-9 lead.

In the second period, Central State found its rhythm, outscoring the Lady Tigers 20-14 and holding a 29-30 lead at the half. Despite only scoring 7 points in the final quarter, Central State maintained its advantage with solid defense and key free throws down the stretch. Savannah State could not overcome its scoring woes, especially from beyond the arc, where the team shot just 16.7%.

Rolack's impressive shooting (8-of-10 from the field) and clutch contributions helped seal the victory for the Marauders. In addition to her 20 points, Rolack added 3 rebounds and 1 steal. Ma'Kayla Williams also chipped in with 9 points and 2 rebounds, while Samara Savoy contributed 11 points, with 7 of those coming from the free-throw line.

For Savannah State, Amani Hamilton led the team with 12 points, and Kayla Grant contributed a double-double, scoring 8 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. However, the Lady Tigers struggled with their shooting, finishing the game at just 28.3% from the field.

Central State's bench made an impact, contributing 21 points, while Savannah State's bench scored 19. The Marauders also outperformed their opponents in points off turnovers (18 to 16) and fast break points (10 to 3), capitalizing on Savannah State's mistakes.

The game was a back-and-forth affair with 7 lead changes and 3 ties, but the Lady Marauders' defense and key plays down the stretch ensured they would extend their perfect conference record to 3-0.
