AMERICUS, Ga. — The
Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers secured a hard-fought victory on the road, defeating Georgia Southwestern State University 66-62. With the win, the team improves to 5-2 (1-0 SIAC) on the season.
In a fast-paced first quarter, both teams showcased strong offensive and defensive plays, with multiple turnovers and fast breaks. Early on,
Faith Bland and
Trinity Jones were key contributors for Clark Atlanta, while Jackson and Boykin found their rhythm for Georgia Southwestern. As the quarter progressed, Garner emerged as a standout, securing key rebounds and scoring critical points. Georgia Southwestern held a narrow lead, 18-15, at the end of the quarter.
Early in the second quarter, Evans contributed with successful free throws and layups. Despite missed three-point attempts by multiple players and several blocked shots, both teams exchanged leads with fast breaks and timely baskets. Bland's three-pointer and layups by Jones and Brown helped Clark Atlanta build momentum and extend their lead. The Lady Panthers managed to hold off a late push from Georgia Southwestern to end the half in control.
In the third quarter, Clark Atlanta extended its lead to 10 points, finishing the period up 49-39. Key players like
Trinity Jones and
Corriana Evans made crucial plays, including successful free throws, a three-pointer, and key steals. Georgia Southwestern fought back with strong efforts in the paint, led by Shane' Jackson and Kiara Williams, but the Hurricanes struggled with turnovers and missed opportunities.
The final quarter was a nail-biter, but the Lady Panthers held on for a 66-62 victory. Clark Atlanta opened the quarter strong with jumpers from
Atreonia Garner. Georgia Southwestern responded with relentless defense and fast breaks, but the Lady Panthers stayed composed in the clutch.
Myori Pruitt and
Trinity Jones sealed the win at the free-throw line, while defensive stops in the final seconds clinched the thrilling victory.
Corriana Evans led Clark Atlanta with 20 points on efficient shooting (7-for-12 from the field and 4-for-6 at the free-throw line). She also added five rebounds, seven turnovers, and one steal.
Atreonia Garner recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds, along with two steals and a block.
Trinity Jones scored 12 points and contributed two rebounds and two assists.
Faith Bland chipped in 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
The Lady Panthers return to action on Sunday (Dec. 8) against Tuskegee University at L.S. Epps Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 12 p.m. Come out and support your team!
