SIAC Football Weekly Honors: Sept. 24

ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its SIAC Football Players of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 24, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in games played last week. David Wright III (Clark Atlanta), Sean Johnson (Morehouse), Leonardo Cabrera (Clark Atlanta) and Malaqhi Jones (Benedict) were recognized.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – DAVID WRIGHT III, CLARK ATLANTA UNIVERSITY
Quarterback | Junior | Tampa, Fla.
David Wright had another impressive outing for the Panthers this weekend. Wright threw for 374 yards, four touchdowns, and went 30-49 on completions. David's performance, amongst others, willed the Panthers to a 38-37 comeback win over Division I Bethune-Cookman. The Panthers are still undefeated and boast their first 3-0-1 start in program history. Wright also earned a "Joey's Helmet Sticker" on the ESPN College Football Final show on Saturday night for his performance against the Wildcats.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – SEAN JOHNSON, MOREHOUSE COLLEGE 
Linebacker | Sophomore | Newnan, Ga.

Johnson powered the Maroon Tiger defense with 12 tackles, including 2.5 tackles-for-loss and a sack, as Morehouse claimed its first victory of the season, defeating Kentucky State in the Chicago Football Classic.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – LEONARDO CABRERA, CLARK ATLANTA UNIVERSITY
Kicker | Freshman | Forest Park, Ga.

The true freshman kicker kicked a career-long 55-yard field goal to help the Panthers escape Bethune-Cookman with a 38-37 victory in an amazing comeback effort.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – MALAQHI JONES, BENEDICT COLLEGE
Wide Receiver | Freshman | Gainesville, Fla.

True freshman Malaqhi Jones had a monster game on national TV, as Benedict rallied to defeat Edward Waters 31-28 on Thursday night. Jones caught four passes for 88 yards and three touchdowns. He caught a game-winning 8-yard touchdown pass with no time left on the clock.
