ALBANY, Ga. — The
Albany State Golden Rams extended their win streak with a dramatic 104-101 double-overtime victory over the
Lane College Dragons on Thursday, Jan. 2, evening inside The Arena at West Campus. With the win, Albany State improved to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, while Lane fell to 2-10 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
The Golden Rams displayed remarkable grit and determination in a game that saw 13 ties and 12 lead changes. Albany State jumped out to a 39-35 halftime lead, but the Dragons fought back in the second half to force overtime with a last-second tip-in. The teams delivered powerful performances in the first overtime period, decisively pushing the game into a thrilling second overtime.
The Golden Rams entered the second overtime tied at 93-93. Poteat and Johnson hit critical shots, and Wallace's composure at the free-throw line ensured Albany State held the lead. A defensive stop in the closing seconds allowed the Rams to secure the victory.
Shakur Poteat led the Golden Rams with a game-high 27 points, adding six assists and three rebounds in his 45 minutes of play.
Blaise Wallace recorded a dominant double-double with 26 points and 14 rebounds, including clutch free throws in the final moments of the game.
Kendale Johnson showcased his sharpshooting, scoring 22 points on six three-pointers, including a crucial basket in the second overtime to help seal the win.
Lane College's effort was led by Elijah Greer Dawson, who scored 25 points and recorded five steals. William Henderson added 20 points and a team-high 12 rebounds for the Dragons.

The Golden Rams will return to action on Saturday, January 4, as they host the LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians for Community Day. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM at The Arena on West Campus.
