ATLANTA — The
Clark Atlanta women's basketball team opened the new year with a 69-61 come-from-behind win over the reigning SIAC champions
Miles College on Thursday evening inside Epps Gymnasium. Four Lady Panthers scored in double figures with
Corriana Evans leading the way with a game-high 19 points.
Trailing 61-56 with 4:30 left in the game, the Lady Panthers (9-4, 5-2 SIAC) closed on a dominant 13-0 run, fueled by clutch free throws and fast-break points. Evans led the way for Clark Atlanta with 19 points and five blocks, including a pivotal layup and a pair of free throws during the decisive stretch.
Lizzie Walker added 13 points, going 9-for-11 from the line, while
Atreonia Garner chipped in 14 points and six rebounds.
Miles College (7-3, 5-2 SIAC) relied heavily on Feliah Greer, who scored 18 points, and Iemyiah Harris, who contributed 13 points and four steals. Despite their efforts, the Golden Bears struggled to protect the ball in crunch time, committing 20 turnovers.
Clark Atlanta capitalized on those mistakes, scoring 26 points off turnovers. The Panthers also outpaced Miles in the paint with 38 points compared to the visitors' 34.
The Panthers shot a stellar 27-for-38 from the free-throw line, a critical factor in their comeback. Meanwhile, Miles finished just 13-of-20 at the stripe. Clark Atlanta also held a slight edge on the boards, out-rebounding Miles 38-31.
