MEMPHIS, Tenn. —
Kentucky State women's volleyball opened strong but dropped a 3-1 decision to
Edward Waters on Saturday morning inside Bruce Hall/Johnson Gymnasium during SIAC cluster play.
Kentucky State (3-17, 2-8 SIAC) put together one of its more balanced offensive efforts of the season, finishing with 46 kills as a team.
Sydnee Breda-Nixon led the attack with eight kills and a solo block, while
Laila Wheaton added seven kills, three total blocks, and 10 points.
Jayla Collins provided a spark at the net with seven kills on a .500 hitting percentage and four block assists.
Ananiah Huguely turned in an all-around performance, recording six kills, 20 digs, and a service ace to lead the defensive effort.
Setter
Jada Knight distributed 18 assists and added six digs, while fellow setter
Sienna Stewart matched her with 18 assists and a service ace.
Leah Tubbs contributed six kills and two blocks, and
Cydne Clayton added five kills and a block assist. Defensively, the Thorobreds finished with 57 digs and 12 total blocks, limiting Edward Waters to a .158 hitting percentage overall.
