Benedict Takes Down Lane, 75-69

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Benedict College Tigers built a 14-point lead and held off a late Lane College rally to take a 75-69 victory over the Dragons in a SIAC men's basketball game on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
 
The Tigers improve to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in the SIAC. Lane falls to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the SIAC.
 
Benedict took a 46-32 lead with 17:13 left in the second half after a layup by Kameron Foman. Another layup by Foman made it 50-41 with 13:07 to play before the Dragons went on a 14-1 run to take a 55-51 lead with 8:07 to play.
 
A 3-pointer by Caleb Hymon tied the game at 61 with 3:07 on the clock, with a three-point play by Malachi Chavis giving the Tigers a 65-61 lead with 2:11 remaining.
 
The Dragons were able to come back and tied the game at 67 on a pair of free throws with 1:05 remaining. Landon Jeffries gave Benedict the lead for good on a pair of free throws a few seconds later, and Cole White scored a layup with 30 seconds left to help clinch the win. Benedict sealed the game at the free-throw line, making four free throws in the final 13 seconds.
 
White led the Tigers with 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Foman added 18 points and hauled in nine rebounds. Hymon chipped in 16 points.
 
The Tigers hit the road next week, taking on Miles on Thursday and Tuskegee next Saturday. They return home to face Spring Hill College on Wednesday, Dec. 17.
