COLUMBIA, S.C. — The
Benedict College Lady Tigers held LeMoyne-Owen to just one field goal in the third quarter and outscored them 19-4 to pull away and take a 62-43 victory on Thursday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The game was tied at 31 at the half. In the third quarter, LeMoyne-Owen missed their first 15 field goal attempts, finally breaking the drought with a buzzer-beating half court shot. Their only other score in the period was a free throw in the first minute, and then went scoreless for nine minutes as the Lady Tigers were able to build a 15-point lead, 50-35, heading into the final period.
Benedict (2-2 overall, 2-2 SIAC) continued its stellar defensive pressure in the fourth quarter, holding LeMoyne-Owen to 3-of-15 shooting and cruised to their second win of the season. LeMoyne-Owen (1-4 overall, 1-4 SIAC) shot 4-of-31 (12.9 percent) in the second half and committed 29 turnovers.
Asiah Harris led the Lady Tigers with 11 points and 8 rebounds.
Aaliyah Lawrence added 10 points and had five steals.
Benedict is back in action on Saturday, hosting Lane College at 1 p.m.
