FORT VALLEY, Ga. — The Wildcats reached double-digit victories on Saturday afternoon. With eight minutes left in the game,
Fort Valley State put up five points in a row and never trailed again in a 62-61 close win over
Allen University men's basketball.
Trailing 47-46,
Antonio Puaauli-Pelham dropped his first 3-pointer of the day and pushed FVSU on top, 49-47, with 7:27 remaining.
Khirus Doucet laid in a bucket exactly a minute later and made it a 4-point margin for the first of four times over the next three minutes, with the final one at 59-55 with exactly 3:00 minutes. Pelham drained his second triple with 2:26 for a 62-55 margin, and the Wildcats needed all the points. The Yellow Jackets netted the game's final six tallies but could not overcome the home team.
With the victory, FVSU reached the double-figure win total at 10-14, the program's first time in double digits for wins since it went 14-15 two years ago. The Wildcats also have rebounded from a tough fall semester to be 9-4 in the 2025 part of the docket. FVSU completed the regular season series sweep of Allen (6-16/2-14 SIAC East) after it won 72-68 in Columbia, S.C., back on Jan. 20.
Hassane Diallo started fast with the home team's first seven points and he finished 6 of 9 from the floor for 15 total points. The sophomore also grabbed seven rebounds and handed out three assists.
Off the bench,
Jaylen Jackson hit for 13 points.
Sayerr Senghore made 4 of 7 field goals for 10 points and pulled down eight caroms.
Pelham finished with six points on his two treys and had five rebounds.
Marcus Scott chipped in seven points and three rebounds. In the backcourt, Doucet contributed six points, four rebounds and three assists, along with
Jahlen Jack's five points, four boards and a pair of assists.
Peyton Weathersby guided Allen with 15 points.
FVSU continues at home for a Tuesday night, Feb. 18, contest against Benedict College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
