FORT VALLEY, Ga. — Four Yellow Jackets finished in double-figures Saturday afternoon as the
Allen University women's basketball team won 68-65 at
Fort Valley State.
Freshman guard
Amaris Ridgeway gave Allen the game's first lead on a tip-in layup, 2-0. The two SIAC foes exchanged the lead back and forth during the first quarter, and Allen held a 15-14 lead at the end of the quarter. The second quarter saw FVSU jump in front and outscore Allen by nine points, 23-14, to send the game into the half with the Yellow Jackets trailing, 37-29. However, Allen stormed back in the third quarter. Over a four-minute span, the Yellow Jackets went on a 17-0 run to erase their deficit and take a 52-46 lead with 1:36 left in the third. Allen held tight to their lead over the final 10 minutes in the fourth quarter and closed out the game for their fifteenth win of Coach Olivia Gaines' first season.
Taliah Wesley shot 10-for-12 from the free-throw line and led the Yellow Jackets with 22 points in the win.
Peighton Jambor added 12 points, along with
Eboni Clay, who posted 11 points and six assists. The fourth Yellow Jacket to score double digits was Ridgeway with 10 points.
Allen travels to Albany, Georgia, for their next game on Monday, Feb. 17. Tipoff at Albany State University is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
