Edward Waters Baseball Sweeps Friday Doubleheader Over Tuskegee

TUSKEGEE, Ala. — The Edward Waters baseball team swept their Friday afternoon road doubleheader over Tuskegee University.

In the series opener, Misael Ramos collected four hits in five at bats, as EWU defeated Tuskegee baseball 11-7. Ramos singled in the first inning, singled in the sixth inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the fourth inning.

EWU collected 14 hits and Tuskegee had 10 in the high-scoring affair.

Edward Waters got on the board in the top of the first inning after Ramos singled to center field, Raul Ramirez grounded into a fielder's choice, Caden Hutchinson singled down the left field line, and Jordan Smith singled to left field, each scoring one run.

The Tigers extended their early lead with four runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI singles by Hutchinson, Smith, and Chase Morris.

Anthony Bayyat earned the win for EWU. The right-handed pitcher gave up eight hits and three runs (two earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking four. Cason Shurling collected the save. Elvin Polanco appeared in relief for EWU.

EWU piled up 14 hits in the game. Dave Mitchum collected two hits for EWU in five at bats. EWU had patience at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Torry JonesHugo Schoening, and Smith led the team with two free passes each. Morris, Mitchum, and Smith each stole multiple bases for EWU.

In the doubleheader finale, EWU bested Tuskegee baseball 8-5. EWU were the first to get on board in the fourth when JC Medina singled, scoring one run.

Harrison Glass homered to left field, which helped Tuskegee baseball tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth.

In the top of the fifth, EWU broke the tie when Caden Hutchinson grounded out, scoring two runs. Then a single by Medina followed to extend the lead to 4-1.

Liam Prepetit earned the win for EWU. The pitcher surrendered three hits and four runs over five and one-third innings, striking out four and walking three. Luis Valero collected the save. Bruno Lopez appeared in relief for EWU.

Edward Waterd piled up nine hits in the game. Medina and Jordan Smith were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for EWU. Hutchinson led the team with two runs batted in. Smith stole three bases.

The two squads will play their SIAC series finale on Saturday morning at 10:00 am.
