ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its SIAC Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week on Tuesday, April 22, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in meets last week.
Shawn Jarrett II (
Tuskegee) and
Jhyrique Mangum (
Allen) were recognized.
MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – SHAWN JARRETT II, TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY
Sophomore | Jonesboro, Ga.
Jarrett broke the school record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 51.77 last week. The time ranked him first in SIAC and 13th nationally, meeting the NCAA DII qualifying standard.
MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – JHYRIQUE MANGUM, ALLEN UNIVERSITY
Junior | Swansea, S.C.
Mangum secured his third first-place finish in an outdoor event this season at the Sharonda Coleman-Singleton Classic. The junior won the shot put event with a distance of 14.75m, finishing ahead of a field of NCAA Division I and II competitors. His mark Saturday is the longest of Mangum's outdoor season to date, and second best overall to only his SIAC Indoor Championship winning performance of 15.27m.
