ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its SIAC Softball Players of the Week on Tuesday, April 8, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in games played last week.
Kylah Gardner (
Edward Waters) and
Monica Rose (
Tuskegee) were recognized.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – KYLAH GARDNER, EDWARD WATERS UNIVERSITY
Outfielder | Senior | Belleview, Fla.
Gardner was impressive at the plate for the Lady Tigers through five games last week. She finished with six hits, five runs scored, nine RBI, a double and drew two walks. Gardner helped EWU go 3-2 on the week including a 3-0 road series sweep over Allen.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK – MONICA ROSE, TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY
Pitcher/First Base | Freshman | Pleasant Grove, Ala.
Rose played a pivotal role in Tuskegee’s success, picking up two wins in her two starts while not allowing a single run across 13 innings of work. Over the weekend, she gave up just four total hits, struck out 13 batters, and walked only three. Her standout performance was highlighted by a masterful no-hitter in the series finale, an 8-0 victory in six innings, where she allowed just two base runners via walks while striking out three.
In the series opener on Friday, Rose tossed a complete game shutout, scattering four hits while striking out a season-high 10 batters and issuing just one walk in the 2-0 win. Her ability to command the zone and keep hitters off balance proved crucial as she faced just three batters over the minimum.
She followed that performance with even more dominance on Saturday in game two of the doubleheader. Rose was flawless, not allowing a single hit or run while recording her second complete game shutout of the weekend. Her poise and precision were evident throughout, as she retired 18 of the 20 batters she faced, sealing the no-hitter in just 89 pitches.
