MACON, Ga. — The
Albany State Golden Rams baseball team closed out the season in electrifying fashion, capturing the 2025 SIAC Baseball Championship with a dramatic 14-12 victory over
Savannah State at Luther Williams Field.
This historic title marks Albany State's first SIAC Baseball Championship since 2018, and the win couldn't have come in a more poetic fashion. The Golden Rams were swept by Savannah State (0-3) during their regular season series in early March. But when it mattered most, Albany State turned the tide, defeating the Tigers twice in the tournament, including Sunday's finale, to complete a championship run that mirrored their grit, growth, and relentless determination.
The 2024-2025 season for Albany State Athletics began with a championship from the Women's Cross-Country Team, and it fittingly ends with baseball bringing the last championship of the season back to the Good Life City.
The Golden Rams, who entered the SIAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed, improved to 30-20 overall, notching their fourth straight 30-win season, a streak that began during their last appearance in the SIAC Championship game in 2022.
Albany State came out swinging, scoring runs in each of the first four innings. The Rams jumped to a 5-0 lead by the third, ignited by standout performances from
Luke Addison, who went 3-for-5 with a home run, double, 3 runs, and 3 RBIs;
Matt Delay, who also logged 3 hits and 3 RBIs; and
Tyler Turner, who drove in 3 runs on 2 extra-base hits.
Albany's offense exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by Addison's two-run homer and clutch RBI hits from Turner and
Austin Roberts.
Despite a late surge from the Tigers, who plated five runs in the seventh inning and cut the deficit to just two, the Rams' bullpen held strong. Freshman
Brady Davis earned the win, tossing 4.0 solid innings, while
Landon Kiefer closed the door with two scoreless innings to secure the championship.
Each of these student-athletes made key contributions on both sides of the ball during the tournament run, helping guide ASU past Miles College, top-seeded Spring Hill, and Savannah State twice en route to the crown.
The Golden Rams were well-represented on the 2025 SIAC All-Tournament Team, including:
•
Emory Stephens – Tournament MVP
•
Luke Addison
•
Hill Corley
•
Nathan Saavedra
•
Gercal Reyes
With the championship secured, the Golden Rams now await their placement for NCAA Regional play. The NCAA Selection Show airs on May 11, when Albany State will learn its next opponent to further extend its season.
