Benedict Edges Clinton, 3-1

ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Benedict College Lady Tigers edged out Clinton College 3-1 for their first road victory of the season in women's volleyball action on Friday night.
 
Benedict won the match 25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23 to improve to 2-0. Clinton dropped its first match of the season, falling to 4-1.
 
After the two teams split the first two sets, the match turned in the third set. Clinton held a 22-17 lead before the Lady Tigers reeled off six points in a row to take a 23-22 lead. Desire' Young, Aiyo Price and Mia Burgess all had kills, while Willow Alls served up an ace. Clinton stopped the run with a kill to tie the score at 23, but Benedict scored the final two points, with Akili Jones closing out the set with a kill.
 
Benedict pulled away in the fourth set and held an 18-12 lead, but the Golden Bears rallied with six straight points and an 8-1 run to take a 20-19 lead. The two teams traded the next two points before Benedict scored three points in a row on a kill by Price and a pair of Clinton errors for a 23-21 lead.
 
After a Clinton point, Price scored a kill to make it 24-22. Clinton scored the next point, but the Lady Tigers clinched the match after a Golden Bear attack error.
 
Burgess led the Lady Tigers with 12 kills, while Price had 10 kills. Young and Jones had eight kills each. Alls recorded 29 assists, while La'Jai Wilson had 13 digs.
 
Benedict plays at Claflin on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
