ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Cross Country Runners of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 30, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in meets last week.
Malcolm Kibiwot (
Tuskegee) and
Cynthia Koech (
Lane) were recognized.
MEN'S RUNNER OF THE WEEK – MALCOLM KIBIWOT, TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY
Junior | Eldoret, Kenya
Kibiwot, a freshman, delivered a career-best performance in the men's 8K, crossing the line in 27:07.2. His time marked the second-fastest in the SIAC this season and ranked 23rd overall in a competitive field that included regional powers. His effort helped lead the Golden Tigers to a 9th-place finish out of 18 teams, as the squad posted a combined time of 2:28:13 with a 29:38 team average.
WOMEN'S RUNNER OF THE WEEK – CYNTHIA KOECH, LANE COLLEGE
Freshman | Eldoret, Kenya
Koech came in first place, running a 19:15:66, in the 5,000 meters Women's 5K at the Topper Trails Classic at Blue Mountain College in Mississippi. Her first place time helped lead Lane College to 3rd place overall in the event out of a multitude of teams surpassing Delta State, Williams Baptist, Tougaloo, and Siac rival Lemoyne Owen.
