Big Second Half Leads to Central State Victory

WILBERFORCE, Ohio — Powered by a dominant third quarter and an electric midday atmosphere, the Central State women's basketball team picked up a 72–61 SIAC victory over LeMoyne-Owen College on Wednesday afternoon inside Beacom/Lewis Gym.

An enthusiastic group of Dayton Public Schools students packed the stands for the noon tipoff, bringing constant energy and noise that fueled the Marauders from start to finish. Central State responded with pace, pressure, and timely scoring, improving to 3–13 overall and 2–11 in conference play.

After leading 18–14 at the end of the first quarter, Central State weathered a brief scoring lull in the second as LeMoyne-Owen edged ahead at halftime. The game turned decisively after the break. The Marauders erupted for 26 points in the third quarter while holding the Lady Magicians to just seven, flipping the momentum with aggressive defense, fast-break opportunities, and efficient shooting.

Ma'Kayla Williams led the charge with a game-high 21 points, adding eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks in a complete two-way performance. Calyanna Cage followed with 17 points, five assists, and four steals, consistently pushing the tempo and igniting the crowd. Nicole Forbes added 14 points and five rebounds, while Ashyia Maddickes chipped in nine points and five boards.

Central State forced 28 turnovers on the afternoon, converting them into 25 points, and finished with a 19–9 advantage in fast-break scoring. The Marauders also knocked down 21 free throws, including key makes in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

LeMoyne-Owen was led by Janara Williams' 20 points and nine rebounds, but the Marauders' third-quarter surge proved too much to overcome.

With the energy of the Dayton Public Schools students setting the tone, Central State Marauders delivered one of their most complete performances of the season, turning a school-day crowd into a true home-court advantage.
