COLUMBIA, S.C. —
Miles shot 50 percent from the field and had four players score in double figures to secure a 78-72 win over
Allen on Saturday afternoon. It was the seventh straight win for the Golden Bears in the series but one with the smallest margin of victory.
The Yellow Jackets had a one-point lead in the second half before
Jaden Emory (six points, two assists, two steals) drilled a 3-pointer to give Miles the lead for good with 11 minutes remaining. That started a 15-6 run for the Golden Bears where
Elijah Terry starred. He scored all seven of his points during the run, including a dunk on a feed from
Najashi Tolefree, then closed the spurt with a 3-pointer to give Miles a 63-55 lead with 6:43 to go.
Down the stretch, it was Tolefree and
David Williams that closed the show for the Golden Bears. Tolefree had eight points and Williams (12 points, five rebounds, four assists) added seven as Allen did all it could to extend the game by sending Miles to free throw line. But the Yellow Jackets never got closer than four points the rest of the way as the Golden Bears earned their second straight victory.
Shadale Knight had 22 points and Christopher McKnight added 13 to lead Allen. Tolefree (20 points, 12 rebounds, two assists) had a big night while
Isaiah Jones (14 points, four rebounds) and
Frankie Idlett (12 points, three assists) scored in double figures for Miles, which plays at Albany State on Wednesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
