COLUMBIA, S.C. —
Miles scored 28 points off of 26 turnovers and held Allen to 33 percent shooting through the first three quarters in coasting to an easy 75-61 win over
Allen Saturday afternoon.
The 16th-ranked Lady Bears (18-4, 16-3 SIAC West) never trailed, opening a 12-point advantage in the first quarter on consecutive 3-pointers by
Samarian Franklin. A 14-4 run into the late portions of the second quarter saw the lead grow to 18 points before Miles settled for a 41-26 halftime advantage.
Back-to-back 3-balls from
Jaylen Pleasant (five points, four rebounds) and Franklin sparked a 9-0 run and saw the lead balloon to 55-31 with six minutes remaining in the third quarter. Six different players would score during an 11-0 spurt late in the period as the lead peaked at 27 points before Allen got a late bucket to send the game to the final quarter at 69-42. The Yellow Jackets closed the game on a 15-4 run but they never came close to threatening the Lady Bears the rest of the way.
Peighton Jambor (14 points) and Destini Gooddine (11) were the only double figure scorers for Allen. Franklin (15 points, five rebounds, four assists, four steals) led the cavalry and got support from
Nayla Wesley (13 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals, one block),
Makayla Rieves (eight points, seven rebounds) and
Madison Lee (seven points, game-high 10 rebounds).
Jamaica Young and
Otiscia Towns each had eight points and
Shannon Niles added seven points for Miles, which travels to face Albany State on Wednesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
