FRANKFORT, Ky. –
Amina Seck poured in a game-high 22 points and
Kentucky State women's basketball dominated the glass to secure a 59-45 victory over
Savannah State on Saturday afternoon at the William Exum Center.
The Thorobreds utilized a massive 60-28 rebounding advantage to overcome 25 turnovers and snap a recent skid. Kentucky State's bench played a pivotal role in the win, outscoring the Tigers' reserves 24-3.
SECK LEADS THE CHARGE
Seck was efficient from the floor, shooting 9-of-14 and adding a perfect 4-of-4 performance from the free-throw line. She anchored a Kentucky State interior attack that accounted for 40 points in the paint.
Amaya Asher contributed with 16 points and five assists in 24 minutes of action.
Saniah Sandlin added eight points on 4-of-5 shooting, while
Alycia Triplett controlled the boards with a game-high 13 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kentucky State opened the first quarter with a 9-2 run led by four points from
Amina Seck and three from
Amyah Adair-Mars. Savannah State responded with an eight-point run to come within one at 11-10 with 1:42 remaining in the period. Kentucky State edged Savannah State 12-10 at the end of the first quarter.
At the 6:52 mark of the second quarter, Savannah State made both attempts at the charity stripe to close the gap to 17-16. The Thorobreds found a seven-point run to create an eight-point lead, 28-20, with 2:10 remaining in the half.
The duo of Seck and
Amaya Asher controlled the edge in the fourth quarter, leading the offense to help extend Kentucky State to a 59-45 victory over Savannah State.
