Benedict College Lady Tigers Roll Past Tuskegee, 60-49

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers held Tuskegee to 27 percent shooting and never trailed as they took a 60-49 victory in a SIAC women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
 
The Lady Tigers held a 12-point lead, 21-9, at the end of the first quarter, and built as much as a 22-point lead in the second quarter before taking a 37-18 lead at the half. The Lady Tigers maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half.
 
Benedict improves to 11-7 overall and 11-7 in the SIAC. Tuskegee falls to 11-9 overall and 11-8 in the SIAC.
 
Gwendasia Page led the Lady Tigers with 13 points, while Aaliyah Lawrence added 10 points. Benedict out-rebounded Tuskegee 53-37, and grabbed 29 offensive rebounds. Kayla Fisher equaled her career high with a team-high eight rebounds in just eight minutes of action. Benedict forced 24 Tuskegee turnovers, and scored 30 points off those turnovers. Tuskegee shot 13-of-48 (27.1 percent) from the floor, and made just 4-of-16 (25 percent) of their 3-point attempts.
 
The Lady Tigers will return to action on Monday, traveling to Memphis, Tenn., to play LeMoyne-Owen in a makeup contest at 5 p.m. Central Time.
