Clark Atlanta Buries Lions in the 8th, 10-5 Victory

A massive five-run eighth inning and shutdown relief pitching propel Clark Atlanta past Lincoln University in a Wednesday afternoon thriller.

ATLANTA — The Clark Atlanta Panthers showcased their "clutch gene" Wednesday afternoon, pulling away late to secure a definitive 10-5 victory over the Lincoln University Lions at Home Plate Field. What began as a back-and-forth defensive struggle turned into a CAU highlight reel in the final frames, as the Panthers' bats caught fire to secure the dub officially.

HOW IT HAPPENED  
1st Inning: The Panthers struck early. Aaron Salazar notched an RBI to bring home Andrew Leonard, giving CAU a quick 2-1 edge. 
• 4th Inning: After a brief scoring drought, Jaylon Johnson regained the momentum with a sharp line drive to right field, scoring Jason Cox Jr. to put the Panthers back on top, 4-3. 
• 6th Inning: The Salazar-Leonard duo struck again, combining for another RBI to extend the lead to 5-3. 
• 7th Inning: Lincoln narrowed the gap to a single run, and with the Panthers held scoreless in the bottom half, the tension rose 5-4. 
• 8th Inning: Winston Noel delivered an electrifying two-RBI double that sparked an offensive showcase. Johnson followed suit with two RBIs of his own before heads-up base-running allowed him to steal a run, pushing the lead to 10-4. 
• 9th Inning: The Panthers' defense slammed the door, turning a smooth double play to wrap up the 10-5 win. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE.  
  • The Panthers' bats were on fire, recording 13 hits on the afternoon, led by A. Salaazar and L. Andrew with three apiece. 
  • On the mound, Robert Robinson was dominant in relief, racking up five strikeouts and allowing zero runs to keep the Lions at bay.  

UP NEXT 
The Panthers return to Home Plate Field this weekend for a high-stakes series against the Edward Waters University Tigers. The action kicks off Saturday, February 28, with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 PM and 3:30 PM, followed by the series finale on Sunday at 12:00 PM.
