Historic season continues as Lane reaches 20 wins

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Lane College Dragons continued their historic season Thursday night, defeating Allen University 72-64 inside J.F. Lane Gymnasium to secure their 20th win of the year — extending the program record for most wins in a single season.

Lane (20-5, 19-5 SIAC) used a dominant fourth quarter to pull away from Allen (17-9, 16-8 SIAC) in a game that featured 11 lead changes and was tied six times.

After trailing 54-51 heading into the final period, the Dragons flipped the momentum with defensive pressure and timely scoring. Lane outscored Allen 21-10 in the fourth quarter, holding the Yellow Jackets to just 4-of-12 shooting (33.3%) down the stretch.

Dyani Bernstine led the way with 17 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, adding a key three-pointer in the closing minutes that stretched the Lane advantage to double digits. Kameria Piggee provided a major spark off the bench with 15 points, attacking the paint and converting 7-of-10 free throws. Lauren Lain added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Europe Brown chipped in 11 points and five steals, helping fuel 21 points off turnovers.

Lane's depth proved pivotal, as the Dragons finished with 18 bench points and forced 21 Allen turnovers. The Dragons also dominated inside, scoring 46 points in the paint and converting 30 fast-break points.

The game was tightly contested early. Lane led 19-18 after the first quarter, and the teams went into halftime with the Dragons holding a slim 40-36 advantage. Allen trimmed the deficit to three entering the fourth before Lane's defense and execution sealed the victory.

With the win, the Dragons not only secured a critical SIAC conference victory but also reached the 20-win milestone — the most victories in a single season in program history.
