FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State women's basketball never trailed after a 21-10 as they handed No. 2 in the SIAC East Division a 69-55 loss Monday at the Exum Center.

For the first time since the 2010-13 era, Kentucky State women's basketball has secured more than eight league wins in three consecutive seasons, reaching the nine-win mark Monday with a 69-55 victory over Clark Atlanta.

Amaya Asher led the Thorobreds with 16 points and nine rebounds. Shooting 83% (10 of 12) at the free-throw line, she iced the game by going 7 of 8 in the final minute.

Kentucky State dominated the glass, outrebounding Clark Atlanta 52-35 and using 18 offensive rebounds to score 14 second-chance points. Amina Seckled the way with a game-high 16 rebounds. She also added eight points and two blocks.

On defense, the Thorobreds forced 24 turnovers and turned them into 20 points. Kentucky State recorded 14 steals, with Brittany Campbell and Alycia Triplett leading the way with three each.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Thorobreds got off to a fast start by establishing a double-digit lead early, sparked by back-to-back 3-pointers from Alexis Hayes and Aaliyah Hayes.

Asher pushed the lead to 28-21 with a fastbreak jumper with 41 seconds remaining in the quarter to give the Thorobreds a 21-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Although Clark Atlanta made a push in the second quarter, Amyah Adair-Mars converted a layup with 1:55 remaining to halt the Panthers' run and push the cushion back to six.

The Thorobreds used their defensive intensity to limit the Panthers to just three field goals in the third quarter. Beating the buzzer, Brittany Campbell hit a 3-pointer from long range to give the Thorobreds a 12-point, 49-37 lead heading into the final frame.

Things got tight in the final frame as Clark Atlanta cut the Kentucky State lead to 54-53 with 2:12 left. Asher iced the game, scoring nine of her 16 points in the final minute, including seven straight free throws to secure a 69-55 win.
