COLUMBIA, S.C. – The
Benedict Tigers scored the go-ahead runs on a two-run single by
Curtis Lindsey in the seventh inning and went on to take an 11-6 victory over
Edward Waters in the final game of their SIAC series on Sunday at Tiger Field.
Edward Waters tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the seventh. Benedict had a pair of runners on base in the bottom of the seventh when
Kenyan Conner Jr. was hit by a pitch and
Christopher Trujillo Ruiz hit a one-out single. Lindsey's hit to left field scored both runners.
Edward Waters scored a run in the eighth to cut the lead to 7-6, but the Tigers put the game away with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the eighth. Conner hit a grand slam after three straight singles loaded the bases.
Conner went 2-for-4 with five RBIs to lead the Tigers, hitting an RBI double in the fifth inning to give Benedict a 4-3 lead. Trujillo Ruiz went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Lindsey went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Jonathan Olmedo and
Cameron Haley also had two hits each.
Lefrederick Wooten earned the win on the mound, going the distance to improve to 3-0. He struck out eight and allowed seven hits.
Benedict (9-5 overall, 7-5 SIAC) and Edward Waters (11-11 overall, 7-5 SIAC) completed their suspended game prior to Sunday's game. Edward Waters won that game 15-9.
The Tigers travel to Savannah, Ga., to take on Savannah State in a three-game series next weekend, with a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday.
