Clark Atlanta escapes semifinal scare to face Tuskegee

MORROW, Ga. — The Clark Atlanta University men's basketball team held off a strong individual performance from LeMoyne-Owen to earn a 59-54 victory Thursday evening at the Clayton County Convocation Center.

Clark Atlanta (22-7) used a balanced offensive effort and timely defense down the stretch to secure the win after leading 24-20 at halftime. The Panthers added 35 points in the second half to hold off LeMoyne-Owen (13-14), which was fueled largely by the scoring of LaDricus Pittman.

Jaden Martin led the Panthers with 11 points and eight rebounds while providing a spark off the bench. Kharye Cayne and Jadyn Shider each added nine points, with Shider also grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out three assists. Chase Hill contributed eight points, while Darnell Evans finished with seven points and two steals.

Clark Atlanta shot 21-of-47 from the field and controlled the interior with 30 points in the paint. The Panthers also received a strong contribution from their bench, which accounted for 20 points in the contest.

LeMoyne-Owen was led by Pittman, who scored a game-high 33 points on 10-of-17 shooting and added five rebounds. Marial Malek recorded 11 rebounds for the Magicians.

Defensively, Clark Atlanta forced 24 turnovers and converted those opportunities into 19 points, helping the Panthers maintain control throughout the second half.

With the win, Clark Atlanta advances to face Tuskegee University in the SIAC Tournament Semifinals tomorrow at 5 p.m. at the Clayton County Convocation Center.
