Morehouse Storms Back, Outslugs Panthers in Wild Series Finale, 17-14

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga.  Morehouse showed plenty of toughness in Sunday's SIAC series finale, shaking off a brutal first inning and roaring all the way back for a 17-14 win over Clark Atlanta at Home Plate Field. The Maroon Tigers answered an early six-run hole with wave after wave of offense, took control with an explosive eighth-run sixth inning, and closed out the Panthers to wrap the weekend on a high note as Morehouse moved into fifth place in the conference.

Game 3: Morehouse 17, Clark Atlanta 14
Scoring Summary
Clark Atlanta came out swinging and grabbed a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first, using a string of RBI hits and a three-run homer to put Morehouse on its heels. But the Maroon Tigers answered immediately in the second. Mariano McLean got the rally started with an RBI single, Robert Robinson Jr added an RBI groundout, TJ Whiteman punched in another run with a single, and Elijah Pinckney capped the frame with a two-run double to pull Morehouse within 9-5.

Morehouse kept coming in the third when McLean launched a two-run homer to left-center, trimming the deficit to 10-7. In the fourth, Tripp Braswellripped an RBI triple and Cam Simmons followed with an RBI double, cutting the margin to 11-9. After a scoreless fifth, the Maroon Tigers finally broke the game open in the sixth. Whiteman scored on a bases-loaded walk to Simmons, Pinckney came home on a walk to Raymond Jenkins, Braswell scored on a walk to McLean, Nicholas Pittman lined an RBI single through the left side, Robinson followed with a two-run single up the middle, Whiteman reached on an error that brought home another run, and Pinckney added a sacrifice fly to finish an eight-run inning and put Morehouse in front 17-11.

Clark Atlanta made one last push with two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth, but Morehouse kept the Panthers from getting all the way back and finished off the win in the ninth.

Key Moments
The biggest moment of the afternoon was Morehouse's refusal to let the first inning define the game. After spotting Clark Atlanta six runs, the Maroon Tigers chipped away over the next three innings, then delivered the decisive blow in the sixth by sending 12 men to the plate and hanging eight runs. McLean's two-run homer in the third helped steady the comeback, Braswell and Simmons kept the pressure on in the fourth, and Robinson's two-run single in the sixth gave Morehouse even more breathing room in the middle of the rally.

On the mound, Jackson Edington gave the Maroon Tigers a needed lift in relief and picked up the win with 2.2 innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out three. Braswell then helped finish it off, recording the final four outs without allowing a hit and earning the save.
