ATLANTA (April 16, 2018) – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its annual all-conference awards for women’s tennis on Monday as Benedict placed five on the First team while earning two additional superlative awards.
The Lady Tigers, 2017 SIAC Women’s Tournament Champions secured four spots on First Team. Clark Atlanta had seven honorees between both teams, followed by Spring Hill with three. Tuskegee finished the selections with two and Albany State rounded out the all-conference team with one.
Benedict’s Caroline Nguy was named the 2018 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Year alongside head coach, Gary Taylor, who was selected as 2018 SIAC Coach of the Year. Clark Atlanta’s Nicola Ramdyhan solidified superlatives awards as she was selected as this year’s Freshman of the Year.
All conference honors are voted on by league head coaches and sports information directors.
Benedict’s, senior, Caroline Nguy earned this year’s top honor as she finished the season 14-1 in singles play which includes her perfect 10-0 conference play record. Her doubles record was 16-2 with primary playing partner, Daniella Rios, with yet another perfect 12-0 conference record. Nguy is entering into the championship tournament on a twelve-game winning streak as she leads the unblemished Lady Tigers to seek out another championship title.
Clark Atlanta’s rookie, Nicola Ramdyhan, was selected as Freshman of the Year after leading the Lady Panthers to a second place finish and finishing with a 12-4 singles record (9-1 SIAC) and a perfect 9-0 doubles conference record.
Benedict’s head coach Gary Taylor was named the SIAC Coach of the Year as he led the Lady Tigers to a perfect 14-0 record in the SIAC while finishing the regular season 17-3 overall.
Clark Atlanta secured the No. 2 seed and is set to face No. 3 Albany State on Monday, April 16 at 1 p.m. EST. Following after, the defending champions, Benedict Lady Tigers, will face No. 4 Fort Valley State at 3 p.m. The finals will commence on Tuesday, April 17 with the first match scheduled for 1 p.m.
